Translation:

It is fine when it is cloudy and fine when it is clear.
The original form of Mr. Fuji never changes.

GOOD FORTUNE

This painting was brushed in 1989, the year of the snake. Kasumi Bunsho was eighty-three years old. He has painted the large character for Good Fortune in the shape of a snake, and to emphasize this form, has placed a fleck of gold leaf to create the eye.

The poem reminds us that in this world of shape shifting change, our true original nature is eternal, constant and unchanging.
