Translation:

The sound of the wind in the pines.

                  Shizan, age 100

The wind in the pines signifies the natural world, and the teachings that nature conveys to a still mind.   Ashikaga Shizan was active until his death in 1959 at the venerable age of 100.  This calligraphy was brushed in the last year of his life, in the full ripeness of his Zen realization.
