The Great God of Wealth, freely bestowing happiness;
ask him for anything, and he will pull out a jewel from his treasure bag.(signed) Murasakino Banjin
Daikoku is the Japanese folk god of prosperity. He wields a magic mallet that is like Aladdin's Lamp, granting you anything you desire. He sits on top of two bales of rice, symbolizing a bountiful harvest. Eminent priests, especially from Daitokuji, were often requested to do such paintings of Daikoku to serve as a good luck charm for a household.
Banjin was an important monk at Daitokuji.
