Daikoku is the Japanese folk god of prosperity. He wields a magic mallet that is like Aladdin's Lamp, granting you anything you desire. He sits on top of two bales of rice, symbolizing a bountiful harvest. Eminent priests, especially from Daitokuji, were often requested to do such paintings of Daikoku to serve as a good luck charm for a household.

Banjin was an important monk at Daitokuji.
